Celestia S. Higano received a medical degree from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her postdoctoral training included an internal medicine residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota and a fellowship in oncology at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. In addition to her appointment at the University of Washington, Dr. Higano is currently a member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Clinical Research Division. Board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Higano holds key positions with several local and national organizations. She is the Oncology Discipline Chair of the Southwest Oncology Group Genitourinary Committee; a member of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Genitourinary Task Force; and Co-Chair and Co-Organizer of the West Hawaii Cancer Symposium. Additionally, she is on the American Urological Association Treatment of Localized Prostate Cancer Consensus Committee and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Ad Hoc Prostate Cancer Guideline Review Panel and Cancer Education Committee (Genitourinary Cancer Track). Dr. Higano is well published in the peer-reviewed literature, and she is a reviewer and editorial board member for several journals. She is also Editor for the American Cancer Society’s Complete Guide to Prostate Cancer. An active researcher on topics relating to prostate cancer, Dr. Higano has served as principal investigator on a number of government- and industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies. She is also a highly sought speaker, having given lectures both nationally and internationally. |
