Fred Saad completed a medical degree at the University of Montreal. His postdoctoral training included a residency in urology and a fellowship in urologic oncology. In 1994 he became Chief of Urology at Notre-Dame Hospital of the University of Montreal. He went on to establish the molecular oncology research lab in prostate cancer and a dedicated urologic oncology clinic. Dr. Saad is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He currently serves as Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada G-U Group and the Canadian Urologic Oncology Group, and he is a member of the Canadian Prostate Health Council. Dr. Saad is Past President of the Quebec Urologic Association. In 2004, he was the first recipient of the University of Montreal Endowed Chair in Prostate Cancer and in 2005 he received the Leadership Award in Medicine from the University of Montreal. Dr. Saad has published over 150 articles in the peer-reviewed literature and has authored 3 books and 10 book chapters. Additionally, he is a member of several editorial boards and a reviewer for more than 30 urology and oncology journals. He is a highly sought speaker and lecturer, having given more than 200 presentations in over 20 countries. Dr. Saad’s main research interests include molecular prognostic markers in prostate cancer and new therapeutic approaches to hormone-refractory prostate cancer. He currently coordinates more than 30 clinical and basic research projects in urologic oncology. |
