Activity Overview
This interactive CME-certified Web activity presents the case of a patient diagnosed with ulcerative colitis early in life and follows her through several subsequent clinical visits over the course of many years. Participants will be polled regarding treatment strategies at relevant points in this activity. This case addresses practical and individualized management strategies for patients with ulcerative colitis.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of gastroenterologists who manage patients with ulcerative colitis.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the presentation and prognosis of ulcerative colitis diagnosed during childhood
- Describe the role of 5-aminosalicylic acid agents in inducing and maintaining remission in patients who have a history of difficult-to-treat ulcerative colitis
- Incorporate surveillance and chemoprevention strategies to reduce colorectal cancer risk
- Summarize the safety issues related to ulcerative colitis therapies during pregnancy
- Discuss the diagnosis and treatment recommendations as outlined in guidelines on osteoporosis in inflammatory bowel disease
- Utilize effective strategies that address both prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in patients with ulcerative colitis
